Aspire Revo 3610 Discontinued?
(17 posts)-
I was hoping to get an Aspire Revo 3610 (aka AR3610, R3610) as an HTPC. I've been waiting for NewEgg to stock them, but now I see that the item has been "deactivated". Other retailers like CDW list the product as discontinued?
What's the deal? Has Acer really killed off such a popular machine?
Thanks!

You can still get them on eBay with no tax and free shipping.
I'm thinking of getting one too, but on many sites as you've said has list the product as "Discontinued"
The listing on eBay shows a bigger HDD, but the only downside is the wireless keyboard while a qwerty layout and work exactly like a standard keyboard also has Chinese characters on it. It may or may not bother you.

@enicholson Have no idea about US stocks and Acer US get beck to me way too late. You might want to ping Peter (Moderator) @Staples. He's in Canada though...

The unit is in stock in Canada at:
http://www.ncix.com (for Canadian users)
http://www.ncixus.com ( for US Users)Simply type "revo" without the quotations into the search box to come up with three different revisions of the Acer Revo.
As for some store beginning to discontinue them the only logical reason would be for a post-christmas refresh of some sort. But that usually doesn't happen for at least couple months after the holidays. So if you're looking for something be sure to snap it up now while you can still get it.

Nice find Peter! Thanks!
Stupid question, but would I have any NTSC vs PAL weirdness with this set in the US?
Thanks again!

Discontinued?!... say it ain't so... Amazon.com appears to have some available via J&R, but when I visited the J&R store there was none available. Same with B&HPhoto here in NYC... their web site shows the Aspire 3610 as back-ordered.
I'm very tempted by the 4GB RAM, 500GB HD with video game controller for $436US in the ncixus site shown here http://www.ncixus.com/products/46269/PT.SCX02.029/Acer/ but I'm bit reluctant as someone mentions in the Q&A section that they received a French keyboard packaged with their unit. I need a US keyboard.
I wonder what's going on with Acer and the Revos. From what I read around everyone is giving this specific model a "fair" review. In US sites (besides eBay) I can only find the 2GB RAM, 160GB HD with no game controller version of the 3610 usually for $329US which I think is a good deal. Does anyone know if the 500GB HD version has a different model number? In the US it "appears" that AR3610-U9012 is the model number for 160GB HD version.
I hear some folks complaining about the unavailability of the Vesa mounts that are depicted in the advertisement for the units, issues with the BIOS and HDMI in combination with the NVIDIA drivers (Acer supposedly not releasing new BIOS to address the issue) and the need for Adobe Flash player 10.1 beta in order to get a good experience with streamed video. Any other issues that I should be aware of? Btw, any rumors of new and improved versions of the Revo in the pipeline... I wonder if Acer is showing the Revo at CES?

@tamanaco You might not believe this but the Revo is the only product I've had absolutely nothing to do with so I haven't seen the road map. I'll ask if it's going to be at CES, although the people I need to ask are trying to close open projects before Christmas...

IT's quite possible that, as almost every computer in canada now, that the Revo is shipping with a keyboard that is compatible with the Canadian multi-lingual standard keyboard. What does this mean to you? A slightly smaller right and or left shift key and an extra button using that space left by the smaller shift keys.
That's it. I wouldn't worry about it at all personally.

Great forum! I just received my AR3610 after ordering it back-order on Nov 30 from Newegg. I was concerned too after I saw Newegg briefly list it as back in stock (probably long enough to process the back orders) and then as deactivated.
A recent post in the Boxee forum indicates that Acer now will be including the small VESA mount, which requires a new SKU (reported to be AR3610-U9022). Since my HDTV has only the larger VESA wall mount, this update does not concern me. So there seems to be no conspiracy by Acer to drop this very popular item; chalk it up to product definition snafus impacting production and marketing pipelines during the critical holiday shopping period--go figure.

Don Day, I'm glad you got your backorder, but the "3610" is still "deactivated" at Newegg. Btw, is your Revo Blue? I just noticed that B&H Video in NYC now lists it as "discontinued". It was listed as "backordered" yesterday. I guess there is something fishy with the supply pipeline of Aspire Revo 3610 to the US. Why is there so little supply? I'm going to hold on for a couple weeks and hope that Acer makes an announcement regarding the Revo product line early next year.

Just saw the "Discontinued" at NewEgg too...
I hope Acer gives us some way to existing 3610 owners to get the VESA mount (seen some on eBay, but they're way overpriced), as it's be quite useful for me.
My 3610 is still in Acer's repair center, hopefully will be coming back to me soon. For the curious, had an instability issue - it'd run great then eventually fall into a "constant beep" hang. At first I thought it was a memory issue, but later found it did the same with the stock memory.
I just ordered my 3610 a "brother" - a 1600 destined to be a headless server.
BTW: Thanks AcerGuy for giving us this valuable resource to discuss!

bhiga, maybe you posted this problem in another forum, because I recall reading similar complains from a couple folks about the 3610 not being able to handle the total 4GB RAM using certain vendor's SIMMs. Maybe an engineering change (mother rev.) is what's holding back the supply pipeline.
EDIT: Btw, I just found out that there is a new release (beta 2) of the Adobe Flash player 10.1 that's supposed to give the NVIDIA ION platform improved video performance and reduce CPU usage.

@tamanaco:
It was me, but seems my problem was a bad motherboard. Further testing showed the same "flatline beep of death" even with the stock RAM so Acer Repair replaced my motherboard and things are running great again.Yes, the Flash Player 10.1 beta supports hardware acceleration for video playback - seems to make a big difference. I first read about that on the PaulJRoberts.com blog.
BTW: Happy Holidays all!

I'm in the UK and I got mine from Play.com in Jersey, and they are still listing them. They've disappeared from the SimplyAcer site, though. Is it anything to do with the wireless spec? (see the separate thread about this issue).

In the US I have not been able to find "reputable/authorized" seller/dealer that has the 3610 in stock. Everyone has either discontinued it or stop carrying it. The distribution pipeline appears to have dried up. Why did the US get so few of these boxes? The only way to get them here is either via a Taiwanese dealer(s) on eBay or NCIXUS in Canada. Again, I find this to be a bit odd given the potential market for this box. My hope is that at CES Acer will be introducing new products which "might" include new a Revo using the new ION 2 platform. http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/12/17/nvidia.ion.2.due.february.or.march/

Well it "appears" that a new series of the AspireRevo 3610 model is making its back to retailers. The new series is the AR3610-U9022 the old one was AR3610-U9012. It'll be available for S329 at Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0030L3ASU?ie=UTF8&tag=pigsmonwik-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0030L3ASU and at newegg here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883103235&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-Desktop%20PC-_-Acer%20America-_-83103235

It appears that the AR3610 is disappearing from stores again. I supect that this time it is because it is being replaced with a new model using the D510 Pine Trail chip and the ION II graphics set.
Has anyone been able to confirm this or know when it will be released?
