Aspire X5900 USB ports
(4 posts)-
Hi guys,
I bought my Aspire X5900 in April and have been pleased with it. However I have a problem with the USB ports on the front of the PC. There is a small flap which opens to reveal various ports. At the top are one USB port, a Firewire port and a memory reader port. Below that are four more USB ports, a mircrophone socket and an earphone socket.
I use the top USB port regularly without any problem but I can't get a response out of the four lower ports when I connect any device (eg camera, iPod, USB stick). Is this a repair job or am I missing something?
Also - I don't understand how to use the Memory card reader. Do I need to buy some sort of adaptor in order to reader my Sony memory sticks and SD cards? Unfortunately Acer's user manual isn't very helpful!

the 4 usb ports should work normally, however that little board can fail.
as far as the card reader, and SD card should just pop in and be detected. the memory stick (long one) should also fit right in. If it is a memory stick duo(shorter one) you may need an adapter.

Thanks TechieDiva. I guess it's a repair job for Acer.
On the card reader I probably didn't explain the problem very well (can I attach a picture?).
There are two slots. One is for a CF card and the other is a single slot about 25mm wide with a continuous row of 18 connectors. Above the slot it has logos for SD, XD, M pro and one I don't recognise (|||||M). This suggests I can connect all these cards but neither SD or M pro cards fit. That's why I wondered if perhaps the slot was intended for some sort of adaptor that allowed me to plug in the different cards.

Hi all,
In my post from a few days ago I wrote:-

Anyone come across this slot on their Acer PC and know how to use it? Grateful for any advice.
