CineDash Media Console not working

    Hello!
    I have a neat new Aspire 8930G.
After I formatted the pc and installed Windows 7, the CineDash media console stopped working.
Every time I try to turn up or down the volume, Launch Manager crashes with the message “Acer launch manager keyboard application has stopped working”.
I don’t think it’s because of Windows 7 because after the first installation it worked fine.
Of course, I tried disconnecting both cable and battery, but to no avail. I also uninstalled and reinstalled Launch Manager, but without results.

Stranger still, after uninstalling Launch Manager altogether, the CineDash console started working partially. The volume gauge and the "stick man" don't work, while the Mute button, Hold Button, and stop/play/pause/forward/rewind buttons work fine.

Can you help me please? I don’t want to go back to Vista. I use graphic programs and they lag unacceptably because of the OS.
I am considering downgrading to XP, but how many advanced functions could I retain? Are there drivers that will make my model work fine?
    Thank you. <3

Windows 7 is still in beta and all functions may not work properly. They may work for a while but other programs installed may break functionality of another program.

The Cinedash will not work in Windows XP.

You can try downloading and installing the latest version of the Launch Managerbut if that does not work then it is Windows 7. As beta software is will randomly break and not work with more advanced funtionality. Particularly with 3rd party software. That's why we have beta's and release candidates in software. If you want everything to work properly you will have to install Windows Vista on the machine. There is an optimization guide on this website I would suggest you look at as well for improving your windows vista experience.

Thanks for your answer. In the end I found out that the volume control also works, just MUCH slower than before (This is strange, is it a known problem? It won't go away if I force the console to reset). Well, I can do without Launch Manager if that's all it is about. After all Blue Rays and DVDs still auto-play fine. And there will be a working version in the future, I suppose, in case I find that I want it.

Actually... other than launching Acer Arcade Deluxe, what does the Launch manager do...?

It controls all the buttons and touch funtions on the laptop.

For example, when I right click on my launch manager icon and then go to "configuration" I am able to set what programs are opened when I hit the "email" button, or the "web broswer button" or the crystal "e".

I just thought you might be interested in the reply I had from Acer, when my cinedash console went wonky:

Hello, Thank you for contacting Acer.
    Regarding your enquiry,
It sounds like it may be advisable to perform a system recovery on your machine to rule out that the problem is a software related one. In order to do so, you will need to launch the Disk2Disk recovery feature (which should be supported by your machine). This can be initiated by tapping ALT + F10 (at the same time repeatedly) when the computer is first switched on.. The window of opportunity is very small, so this may take a few attempts
Once you have tapped both the ALT and F10 repeatedly, you may see a screen showing:
“Edit Boot options for Microsoft Windows Vista”
If you see this, unfortunately, you have missed the window of opportunity, and you need to restart, and try again.
    If you see this:
“Edit Boot options for Windows Setup” OR “Edit Boot options for Acer eRecovery”
Then it indicates that you have tapped the ALT + F10 correctly, and all you now need to do is press “Enter” and the Recovery program should load on your screen after a short pause..
In some cases, you may need to remove the battery (for notebooks only) and run the machine directly from the mains.
The Disk2Disk recovery feature allows you to recover the system without recovery CDs. This will return your system to factory settings and will delete everything stored on the machine. If possible we strongly advise backing up anything important on your machine before starting the recovery process.
If you are unable to complete the recovery process, please do not hesitate to contact us again, as there may be another problem with the machine.

Yes Key Master, but had it not been for this marvellous site, I would have gone down the system recover road recommended by Acer!

What I was trying to illustrate was the fact that it was unecessary to go to such lengths, when all it requires is to pull the a/c lead and disconnect the battery.

Thank you, for your most excellent advice.

Hi, please help me I have the same problem! I installed Windows 7 RC over my Vista and now Cinadash Console won't work. The volume control on the left just doesn't match the volume control on my laptop. On Vista when I press the + sign and fill it to the top that means volume at 100%, but now when it's full volume is not max. I went to the acer website and installed the launch manager but it still didn't fix it.

    Beautiful!
My 6935 had gotten the cinedasch console stucked/ locked at full volume and mute activated. I activated/opended the launch manager down right in the task manager(?, not sure if it was de- activated in the first place) and then shut down the computer, pulled out the cable and battery. Waited 20 seconds, power up and wupti; the cinedash actually works again!! Are they more computer problems that can be solved that easy..? ;-)
Thanx for the help! / Örjan

I have got the cinedash working in Windows 7 (final version). I was having all kinds of problems but I reinstalled a fresh version of 64-bit, installed a few basic drivers and then installed the Launch Manager (the Vista 64-bit version from Acer's support page). I rebooted and the volume control does work now. I'm sure I tried this before and it didn't work...but it works fine now. I do know that some of the other drivers I installed caused all kinds of problems but I don't know which one yet...I just went with mostly Microsoft drivers this time and things are working much better.

I upgraded from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate last week on my Aspire 8920G. The Cinedash volume control initially seemed to work, but stopped after a few minutes. I tried the battery reset method, but after a reboot the same thing happened. I only bought this PC in August so don't want to have to take the battery out every time I switch it off!

Fortunately, I kept a disk image of my Vista system so could boot into that. The Cinedash works fine there, so it's not a hardware problem.

Versions of Launch Manager are 2.0.05 under Vista and 3.0.01 under Win7.

I've reported it to Acer Support via their web page a couple of days ago, but they haven't responded yet.

Anyone else got a fix yet?

I did a Vista Ultimate to Win7 Ultimate upgrade on my Aspire 8920G this week using the Acer upgrade dvd. All went well except the CineDash volume control was very very slow working. I downloaded the Launch Manager application version 2.1.1.218 from the Acer website. After installaing this all is working fine.
To find the Launch Manager go to the Acer website/Service and Support/Driver Download. Select Notebook/Aspire/Aspire8940G. The Launch Manager is under the Application tab.
    Hope this helps you.

I tried version 2.1.1.218 of my Acer 8920G. It didn't seem to work right. For example, the wireless key only ever showed a 'disabled' icon, whether the indicator light was on or off. In any event, te Cinedash volume control didn't work right. It still only changed the On-Screen Display if I touched the endpoints, then it tracked towards max or min.

The 'Program and Features' applet claimed I still had version 3.0.03 installed. This may have been because I installed it over that version. I may try installing it (or another version) again. I currently have version 3.0.01 installed ("Program&Features" agrees!).

Of course, it would help if I could get hold of a list of versions for each component, to check that I have a consistent set of files, but naturally Acer don't provide such a thing.

Before you install a program it is highly advisable to un-install the version of the program that you are replacing. Failure to do so will often lead to the program NOT working properly.

Many programs these days seem to be quite happy to upgrade an installed version or to start an uninstall if it's needed. In fact, it's sometimes necessary to upgrade to avoid losing settings.

Of course, since I've been switching versions down as well as up, I should probably be more careful.

I may try 2.1.1.218 again, but it seems significantly different to the others I've tried so possibly isn't compatible with the 8920G.

Just an update that I finally got a reply from Acer that they are waiting for an updated driver and will notify me when it's available.

In other words, there is a problem with the CineDash volume control under Windows 7 and Acer don't yet have a fix for it, so there's no point trying various versions, since none of them are likely to work.

    Hello Acer Guy,

I have a Acer Aspire 6920 notebook and a few weeks ago, I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and installed the recommended drivers... the problem that I'm experiencing is with the CineDash Media Console... the volume is the main problem and what I've noticed is that, the blue light which should appear as the volume is not shown (unless I swipe it with my finger of course) but even if I did, it doesn't seem to control the volume, i.e. it doesn't work...

Another problem that I'm facing is that, the buttons on the right hand side of the keyboard (which is the wireless & Bluetooth buttons) doesn't seem to work as well, once pressed, it doesn't perform its desired function but instead it increases and decreases the brightness of my screen...

When i installed the new OS, I had never faced these kind of problems, even with the previous OS (Windows Vista) up until a few days ago...

Please do me help me out, I don't want to reinstall Windows 7 again...

    Awaiting for your response,
    Cheers!

Hi, I had exactly the same problem (cinedash volume control doesn't work properly on windows 7). However, I've succeeded in solving it. Here's how I did it:

    1) uninstall launch manager
    2) reboot
    3) uninstall synaptics touchpad drivers
    4) reboot
    5) install launch manager from acer drivers support page for windows vista (I have win 7 home premium x64 - I installed drivers for win vista home premium x64)
    6) reboot
    7) install synaptics touchpad drivers from acer drivers support page for windows vista (same procedure as with launch manager)
    8) reboot
    9) now it should work as in windows vista

Important: - do not use any compatibility solutions, simply install it
    - after every reboot let your computer load and start all your programs, then install drivers
    - my laptop is 6935G

if anybody tries this procedure let me know your results please, good luck

This is the best way I've found and it works perfectly on my Aspire 8920G.

Getting the CineDash Media Console and Launch Buttons working
If you have problems with either the CineDash Media Console or Launch buttons then you will be happy to hear that the solution for fixing these is easy!
The first thing that you will need to do is install the “Launch Manager” which can be downloaded off the Acer website. Go to http://www.acer.com and click the service support, then driver download. Go to your model. Download the Launch Manager here (hosted here) or go to the acer site and find it there. The filename should be “Kilimanjaro_v2.0.00_Vistax32×64_XPx32×64.zip” the version of Launch Manager under the Windows Vista operating system .This will get the Email, Web and Empowering Technology buttons working with their default settings. If you need to change what the buttons do, you can launch the application named “Launch Manager” in the start menu.
Uninstall any previous version of Launch Manager
The solution to my problem was to get the Launch Manager to run in compatibility mode for Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
Unzip. Explore the new folder and right-click Setup.exe.
To do this go to the Launch Manager Install directory (C:\Program Files\Launch Manager ), right-click on “setup.exe”, select the “troubleshoot compatibility” tab, check the “Troubleshoot program” check box and then click “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now”. Then select “Windows Vista Service Pack 2”. Then click “Start” program. Now everything should work properly! It will install. But don’t reboot yet!
Now locate and explore the freshly installed folder in your program files directory – (probably C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager or C:\Program Files\Launch Manager depending on if you are running 64-bit or 32-bit)
right-click on “LManager.exe”, select the “troubleshoot compatibility” tab, check the “Troubleshoot program” check box and then click “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now”. Then select “Windows Vista Service Pack 2”. Then click “Start” program. Now everything should work properly! It will install.
Reboot and enjoy properly synced volume, and fully functioning buttons.
