Crystal Eye Problem

I've got an Extensa 4620Z - and the Crystal Eye works great, always has... that is, until now.

Whenever I click on the desktop icon (or open from programs folder) the application window opens, but NO camera. I got the window and the pics I've taken before underneath - but no camera.

The camera IS WORKING - because I can use it with other video/video capture programs. I installed Gmail's video chat recently and that's really been the only change - but since that time, NO CAMERA from the basic application.

Did G-Mail's video chat somehow "override" my Crystal Eye program application?

    Please help!

There are two possibilities, hardware & software. You are able to eliminate the possibility of it being a software issue:

Backup your notebook using the e-recovery software or NTI backup (save it to your D drive)
Do a full system restore on your notebook using the e-recovery software in windows (Or Alt F10 on powering the unit up then follow the on screen instructions).
If the cam works then your issue is software - And since you just backed up your data you can restore back to where you were originally and try find a way to get it working. If it doesn't work then its hardware and I would reccomend having it sent in for repair.

Alternatively you could reinstall the crystaleye application & driver using the e-recovery program restore function which your notebook is bundled with. But this is not a sure-fire solution, quite often I have found a reinstall has not paid off but a full reinstall of windows does.

    Goodluck !

My 6920 does this all the time. My wife uses it to chat with family on line thru yahoo IM all the time, but if I open the program thru the icon, I get an error message.

I can fix this with the erecovery driver thingy, but it's only temporary. I read somewhere that if a picture gets saved to the picture folder it causes the issue?????

As long as it works through IM we're good. If I need to open it, I uses the erecovery thing.

It's annoying, but not worth the effort to back up, wipe out, re-install, and hope for the best solution IMO.

you might have too many pictures stored. try moving some of the pictures to a different folder.

I get an error everytime I try to create factory image on an Aspire 5100 notebook. It appears that optical drive does not see media.
