    Hello!
I've had a beautiful Aspire 8930G for a couple of weeks now.
The problem is that, like so many other people, Vista is no good for me. I use graphic programs such as Photoshop and Corel Painter, and in Vista they lag unacceptably, especially with a graphic tablet like the one I use for digital painting (an Intuos). Not being able to work on a digital A3 300 DPI file frustrates me to no end. It feels like I'm running a 4-year-old machine.

Not thinking I could downgrade to Windows XP, I installed the Windows 7 beta. However, like it was to be expected, it gave me several problems with my drivers. As long as the programs I use work fine and I can still listen to music and watch films, I mind very little.

But now I wonder if I could get better performance AND stabile drivers. So I'm asking: can it work with XP? Will I be able to retain the more advanced features my laptop has - such as fingerprint recognition, CineDash, Bluetooth?

And if it is possible to do such a downgrade, what do I need? I need every single bit of my 4 GB RAM, so I suppose I need XP64. And where to find the drivers? And which ones do I need to make everything work all right? Acer provides no information whatsoever about what each driver does that I could find and I'm very confused.

I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I like my things to work all right and this situation is annoying me. I know I have a potentially good and powerful machine and I want to make it work at the best of its possibilities.

    Thank you!

As far as I know the 8920/8930 was built for vista with the drivers as well. Im not aware that any are compatible for XP.

Windows 7 is a beta. Not all devices are supported. Your laptop will not fully work with Windows XP, it came out in 2001 after all. XP64 also has horrible support, you don't want to use that at all!

Hum, I see. I know about people who have XP on their 8930 but I suppose this means they've had to give up some of the functions.
Now, not wanting to switch back to Vista nor risking to find myself with a system that just won't work fine, I think I'll grit my teeth and stay with 7 unless some major problem happens. Either Acer or Microsoft will release working drivers for the fingerprint recognition - the only non-basic device in the computer I really would love to use - in the future, I hope. Thanks for your answer.

Drivers will most likely be available sometime after the actual release of Windows 7. In which case you'll have to buy a copy of it. The current anticipated release is Christmas 2009, at least that's what Microsoft is shooting for. In any case the beta copies cut off in August I believe. So you'll have to buy Windows 7 when it comes out.

I know, and I hope Microsoft is offering a good discount for those who wish to upgrade from Vista. I don't know what I'll do between August and the actual release though. :-( I'm up for suggestions...

Hi not sure how similar the 8930g and the 8920g are but I have tried downgrading my 8920 a couple times and can get it really close, the only drivers that seem not to work are the ones for the wireless remote control, the only other issue I had was I could never get the Tuba (sub) speaker to work, it really frustrated me that the remote wouldn't work so I always end up going back to Vista

    hi acidkill

can i get any help off you with getting this 8930g to work? been about 3 months trying to get it running properly. it's doing my head in! i think i got most of the drivers working on xp, but my reason for downgrading is the fact that i run a business from home, and the program i use to create deisgns will not work on vista. i have now downgraded, but the program still won't work. it uses a security dongle to run the program, but keeps saying it cannot find the security device. i am narrowing down my problem list, and think i am having the problem because the machine needs to be set to ahci in the bios. do you know how i can achieve this?
