    G'day

I bought a second hand Acer Aspire One running Linux for my travels and it's been great bur won't play Avi. files at all. MPG's work OK but not Avi's.

When trying to play I can hear sound but no screen and get the following message:

Cannot find codec matching selected -vo and video format x44495658.

I've hunted the net; tried to download programmes (but .exe files won't run either), I've attempted to fiddle with the settings a little too but no luck.

Please help! I'll be so grateful if anyone knows what I can do it.

    Best regards, Paul

Thanks for the response but I'm afraid I don't understand that article at all. I think it's for someone very techy, and that's not me...

How do I remove the pre-installed media players; there was some weird code - what am I meant to do with that?

<<You can then install VLC by just adding the official repository and using yum, which only works if the updated default repositories are also installed as mentioned here>>

That was like a different language. Sorry. I tried to follow it several times but it makes absoutely no sense to me! :-(
