    Hi there,

need some advice on the cpu upgrade, i have a Acer t180,

motherboard model number: em61sm/em61pm, up to date bios.

Running vista ultimate 32bit and have 3 GB of RAM

At the moment it has a AMD ATHLON 64 x2 4000+ [2.1 GHz ] not sure if the motherboard can support this or something similar, AMD PHENOM II 720 TRIPLE-CORE 2.8GHz 7.5MB CACHE 95W BLACK EDITION, any advice would be a great help

    thanks in advance.

doubt it. the T180 is fairly old. Probably have a socket 939/940. For a Phenom you will need AM2/AM2+ socket. Would require a new mainboard.

Yeap, there's hardly any CPU's left out there, besides ebay, that are socket 939/940. That socket maxed out at a 4400+ btw. Time for a whole new system.

Well, I see this topic has been dead for about a year, but I need to revive it - I also have an Aspire T180, but mine has a 2 GHz Sempron. I'd like to upgrade it to an Athalon X2, but I'm unsure about what processor speeds the Motherboard (HT2000?) can support.

Can anyone help a guy out with this?

    Thanx!
