I've recently managed to get a trojan virus which is proving difficult to remove.

I have an Acer Aspire 5102WLMi which came with XP installed. I run AVG free and XP firewall.

To be sure that this virus has gone I would like to format the laptop. However I don't know much about computers! When I got the laptop I was prompted to make a back-up by the laptop. I now have 7 back up cds.

How do I go about formating? Which disc should I use? Will it recognise my built in XP?

    Any help is much appreciated.

If you want to reformat the HDD, you will need a program that runs in DOS, such as Partition Commander. Windows will not reformat its own partition, as far as I know. That used to be possible, but no more. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.} To format a different partition, go to Administrative Tools in Windows and select Disk Management.
