installing XP 64 on 6920g using USB flash drive ?
(4 posts)-
Hello... I have an Acer Aspire 6920g Vista 64. I would like to install XP 64 instead. My question is how do I get the proper raid driver and then put it with the windows install on a flash drive. I am using a flash drive because the computer will not read DVD's anymore. (nothing new. it has not been able to burn DVD's either from day one).

MS has released a tool for this, but you will still need to add the drivers to the disc. Might want to look into nlite ( http://www.nliteos.com/ ) which can modify the installation.

Or you could just move to Windows 7 that's quite a bit better than XP. I mean support for XP 64-bit really wasn't ever there.

I completely agree with Peter.
I ran XP x64 for about 2 years, well past Vista x64's release.
Things just don't quite work right in XP x64... The newer drivers often don't recognize it, nor do many installers, and even beyond that, some of my .NET applications didn't behave properly in it. Particularly, Terminals (which is a great multi-protocol remote desktop/control client) acted strangely.
I moved to Vista x64 and everything works much better than it did in XP x64. No more driver headaches, no more having to hack the iTunes installer, and no more problems with Terminals. The only thing I lost was SLI support for my dual 6800GT video cards, but I upgraded my video card anyway, so that's not a problem anymore either.
I have another machine that's running Win 7 x64 and it's very, very nice. I'll eventually upgrade my Vista x64 machine to Win 7 x64 when I make time.
Unless you have a *very* specific reason to go XP x64, I would really go Win7 x64 or stick with Vista x64.
