   I have an acer aspire 8920g, When i first bought it i backed up the comp onto 2 discs,called back up images data discs. due to a very nasty virus a friend said he would sort it, but has wipped the comp and put in an illegal copy of windows vista ultimate which i cant register. does any one know if i put these back up discs in will it restore to factory settings?, with my original copy of vista home premium. or have i got to buy vista again? i have a vista product key code on a sticker on the comp. any help would be much welcome..

   did you ever burn the factory recovery DVD's? if should have prompted you.

   if you have these recovery DVD's you can always recover via those.

   if not, you can contact acer to purchase the dvd's.

   other than that, you might have to purchase a license from MS for that pirate vista that was installed.

   hi, thanks for the reply. yes i do have the factory recover dvds.[i made them as soon as i got the computer using erecovery]. if i use them to restore to factory settings, will that put my legit copy of windows back on the computer? im new to all this and dont want to make things any worse.. again thanks for the help

   yes, you can use those dvd's to put the factory os back on there. however, your alt-f10 feature will be lost so make sure you keep those discs safe after using.

   just place the first disc in the drive, and then boot to that dvd.

   after that, follow the instructions.

   SORTED...it put the comp back to its factory settins, and put my home premium back on as well. thanks.i also backed up all my files, apps, photos,ect using windows back up to my second hdd and on to disc as well, but it wont put it back on to the computer, would you know any websites i can go to that will show me how to do that kind of thing? i can still access all i backed up but its a complicated process to get to it.. thanks for the help

   HI, heres a bit more info. iv put comp back to factory settings,it asked me to create a user accont[john].now when i go to program files i can see nero which i use a lot but isnt on my desktop, so i cant start nero or tune up utilities. now when i went to user accounts my old one is still there[hilly] but i cant access them from there. is there any way i can merge the user accounts? i backed up usin windows back up and restore center, but when i try to restore my stuff its sayin cant find user/hilly. if i can reinstall nere from pragram files that would be great, or merge the user accounts.. thanks again for the help

   do you still have the copies of windows vista recovery discs for your 8920G ? is it possible that i could have a copy for mine since the ones that Acer send me twice untill now are damaged???
