   I have had a Timeline 4810T (with windows 7 upgrade from vista, and intel centrino) since January. It has been used every day as I am writing a thesis but a week ago it stopped shutting down and just got stuck on the 'shutting down'. I had previously noticed that the disk drive worked sporadically and now every other time I turn it on the disk drive is not showing up on 'my computer'. I have had other problems with it as it has not allowed me to install software etc. I tried running it through the recovery process but it still doesnt seem to work properly.
   There are no reported viruses and its hardly ever connected to the internet.
   Please help as I am due to hand my thesis in and need it so I cant send it away.

   hope you have your thesis backed up. Sounds like the hard drive is failing.
