    Hi Guys

I have been given a laptop to take a look at (been fixing pc's/laptops for some time for friends and family for about 10 years now) but this one i just need confirmation on.

basically the laptop is only around 3 years old it has had very little use and has never been placed on carpet or used in bed.

when she turned it on a couple of weeks back it started then she said she heard a faint pop on the lower left hand side and it went off.

The mains power brick has a solid green light on it , but it flashes when you plug it in.
i have tried the mains lead with and without the battery in with the same results.
i get no life at all from it, no led's nothing.

I have no idea if the battery had any life in it but the brick is outputting 18.9 volts as i have tested it with a meter.

Any ideas /suggestions great fully received

flashing light indicates a short on the board. given it's age, it probably is a loose dc jack or burnt component on the mainboard.

A new motherboard it is then? She might just as well buy a new laptop.
