losing wireless connectivity on Aspire 5516

I have an Aspire 5516 that I bought in May. I have recently noticed that, especially after it has been in sleep mode, it has trouble reconnecting to my wireless network. I find myself having to refresh the IP settings, disconnect & reconnect to my wireless network, & sometimes even restarting the laptop.

I know that some Acer laptops have the eNet wireless management software, but I don't think mine has it. I would like to try & resolve this as it is getting to be a hassle to have to keep spending several minutes to get online, or having to completely shut down my laptop after each use.

try updating the bios if available as well as checking for updated drivers for your wireless card.

also, make sure you have SP1 if you have vista.

OK. I don't like to upgrade the BIOS unless absolutely necessary. It's not that old a computer so I shouldn't need to. I have up-to-date drivers for the wireless card & I am on SP1 for Vista.

    Anything else I can try?

I've had similar problems in the past. Mine was due to the DCHP client service. I had to restart the service every time I opened the lid.

It got fixed when I eventually reinstalled Vista. In the meanwhile, create .bat file on your desktop/quicklaunch containing the following two lines:

    net stop dhcp
    net start dhcp

Let me know if this helps.
