    Hi,
First off, I've tried the battery thing but to no avail.
I Got my new 6920 laptop a couple of days ago, and the cinedash worked fine. Yesterday, I shut it down, and on booting it up today it's completely unlit and unresponsive. As the computer first boots up the thing flashes white, so I'm pretty sure it's still wired and everything, but it doesn't seem to be 'on' when the computer is started. Is there a driver or something I'm supposed to update, or someway to activate it within the computer itself?

If it's playing up like that it sounds like a hardware problem. I've sent your question on to Simone - let's see what he thinks.

Although it didn't work last night, I opened up my laptop from standby this morning and it's working again. Because it's just decided to do so, I have no idea what exactly fixed it (to help anyone with a similar problem), but here's what I did yesterday. I suppose any one of these could have fixed it, though not immediately for some reason.
Although I couldn't find any dedicate 'cinedash' drivers, I did update the following to their latest versions: the 'Launch Manager' utility, the 'e-audio management' utility and the 'empowering technology' framework.

So, it's either one of those, or the more likely reason, which is that my machine is haunted with the ghost of Mary Whitehouse, trying her best to stop me listening to my 'devil music'.

Yeah, the Acer touch buttons are tied to the launch manager software. I've had to update/re-install it a couple times after an update from microsoft broke the software.

    Hi,
It's been playing up again. Now, it seems like every other time I turn on the PC or activate it from hibernation the cinedash controls are completely unlit and unresponsive. Just like before, as it boots up the cinedash flashes so I know it's all connected. I'm able to sometimes trick the cinedash into turning on by unplugging the laptop, closing it (so it goes into sleep mode or whatever one it is that makes the power button glow orange), plugging it back in then turning it on, however this is extremely hit or miss. Anyone able to shed some light on this, or do I need to take the thing back before the 28 day warranty expires? I'd really rather not have to, as I've already installed lots of software, music, etc, and got the thing set up how I like it.

turn off your computer. remove the battery and ac power. press and hold the power button for a good slow 10 seconds. then plug the ac back in, power the unit. Cinedash should work properly now. I recommend a bios update to version 1.10

Yeah, I've used that trick for lockups before, but i wasn't sure if this was something else. Anyway, it works (for now), I'll have to see if it keeps working though!
Where do I go about finding the BIOS? I've found the acer support page for my laptop but i'm not sure which one of the options out of the list of drivers and stuff it is.

edit: ok Scratch that it turns out I've had bios version 1.1 all along. ALthough this battery solution works, it seems like i have to do it every time I turn off my computer as it's very often that the cinedash turns itself off. Is there a more permanent fix in the pipeline or do I just have a dodgy unit or something?

as far as i know, there is no permanent fix for it. there may be a firmware some time in the future, but none for this model at the time. If I see anything I will post it here

Oh, well thanks anyway. I've had a more indepth look and it is indeed every time I shut down the laptop that the cinedash stops working and i have to do the battery fix.

It seems a little ridiculous that the CineDash is so extremely fussy and temperamental (at least, so it seems according to all the other reports of it across the web), especially considering it's usually the focal point of Acer's advertising for laptops that have one!

Fingers crossed that they'll sort the firmware out, I guess.

I've done as you said, including upgrade of BIOS. CineDash works, but i have some questions:
    1. When Acer Reg Window appears, it has different serial after BIOS upg.
    2. I had 1 year warranty what about now?
    3. I had preinstaller Win Vista Home Premium OEM. Is OEM SLIC marker still valid?

    1. could be a dmi issue, but just go with the serial number on the bottom

    2. bios updates do not affect warranty

    3. yep, as long as it is an unmodified bios from acer.

I commiserate with you, friend. I had the same problem with my 6920 twice and each time it was after some new MS updates were installed automatically. Removing the battery and re-inserting it has worked both times and there has been no probs for about 3 weeks now, knock on wood!!!

My machine is about 8 months old and for some reason I don't think it will serve me long. There are just too many ACER-specific problems
(the fingerprint progr. compatibility with IE8 is another issue) and my optical drive rattles like mad and produces lots of read errors and fear that it might conk out any minute. I hope I'm wrong.

    Good luck.

I have recently had a similar problem. Since Vista installed some "important updates", my console has been all out to lunch. If I press the mute button, it actually turns the sound on, when I have the volume control all the way up, sound is barely audible and I have to use the speaker icon to turn it up. I have tried the battery solution and it does not work.

Any indication of when this might be fixed by Acer if at all. I have noticed that ever sine they came out with the laptop, they have not upgraded or indicated any new drivers, etc.. I find that hard to believe that given some of the changes, 3 yr old drivers still work..

    Cheers
