Ok so i used to have a 6920g but after it broke and got sent away for repair 4 times with the same problem they decided to replace it with a new better one.

Anyway it arrived yesterday and i only had a chance to install crysis today, it told me optimum settings were high, so i was playing fine for the first level ran smooth etc, then after the 2nd levels cutscene i can play about a minutes worth of gameplay before it crashes and says that the "ATI driver family has stopped responding and was recovered successfully". Does this mean that my graphics card is kaput because i dont think i can take sending another laptop back to acer customer service...i literally will kill myself

The error message you say indicate the video driver bugged out for some reason. It has nothing to do with the health of the physical video card itself. Updating the video card drivers from ATI would most likely solve the problem and prevent it from happening again.

As a matter of fact, it can be related to heat, I used to get the ati driver recovering message back when I was overclock the video card, as the video card gets too hot, the driver reboots for safety. However, it could be just an old driver, head over to http://ati.amd.com to get the latest mobility radeon driver and install it. see if that helps

Yeah i think it could be something to do with heat, for some reason i tried the laptop without it plugged in and basically i played for two hours with no hitches.....what does this mean that the power source is faulty or that its the laptop as i tried the old 6920g power source and it still crashes when plugged in

    Hello robm612,

Temperature doesn't have that of an effect on the graphic performance: If it gets to hot, it will shut down so make sure the laptop does have enough ventilation ; As in don't play on a surface that might puff the ventilation slots and hinder airflow. A increase in temperature increases restance on electronic components. These units however have a higher tolerance thus considered high performance units.

Considering ;), you've the lastest graphics driver package installed, the latest hardware drivers for your laptop [sound, chipset etc], the latest Direct X software uppdates and the latest Windows updates, the latest BIOS for your laptop AND you have legit copies of the games you are trying to play AND updates and patches for these games THEN you should have no problem at all.

Tried playing it on a wooden computer desk but the problem still persists :(

Also, Rome Total War wont work full stop, it wont even install properly. Is it Windows 7 64 bit?
