New hard drive installed. Problem installing vista from system discs.

    I upgraded the hard drive on my Extensa 5420 and when i try to install the system discs i get a no partition error for the hard drive. Can someone help?

    it would seem to indicate the you've got to partition the disk before the software will work. Check with the maker of the hard drive to see if they offer a bootable CD image that you can download and then use on the disk. As well you could plug it into a desktop with opens ports as a secondary drive to format it. If that doesn't work then you may want to get a replacement HDD.

    Hi,

    The reason the recovery CDs will not install to a fresh HDD is due to the CDs looking for a similar partition setup that was on the previous HDD.

    You may want to try creating a partition named 'PQSERVICE' (this is where teh in-built recovery will be installed) normaly this is about 10GB for vista, and the rest of the disc space used for partitions caled Acer and Data (some models were not supplied for a 'data' partition). If you had an Acer and Data partitions these should share the rest of the remaining HDD space
