    Hello

Acer notebook Aspire 6290 on boot up manager failed after several power failures while running Vista. The recovery disks were used and the laptop ran for several more sessions before beginning to fail at every boot up, recovery ineffective.
Replaced the HDD and started loading Win 7, same problem occurred at the windows startup. Attempted install in safemode, this worked until the point where Windows 7 has to be installed in Normal mode, same fails on cue about 10 seconds after startup logo begins. Disconnected the battery, DVD, fan & Wi-Fi physically in the laptop, no change to the alt F10 boot on the old HDD. have not attempted the Win 7 install again yet. Looking for the CMOS battery but cannot see it in the limited space that I could open in the chassis.
    Can you help?

Could you shed any more light (details) on the "power failures" ?
