Replace CPU in Acer Ferrari One? And some more questions.
(7 posts)-
Hi, i recently bought Acer Ferrari One and was really impressed with this machine. But i have some questions about hardware...
I want to replace L310 CPU with something more powerful and feature-full (in l310 there is no cpu scaling function, for example) - something like TL-60, or, more preferably, TL-62 (i think better cpus is unsuitable because of cooling in ferrari one)
I know that this is possible. Do i need to buy anything more than just CPU? Can stock acer ferrari cooling system handle TL-62?
Basically i will use 2.10 GHz power only when playing or compiling something (hello Linux users!), for other tasks such as browsing and IM i will use 1ghz mode (or less if it possible :D) - i think power consumption of TL-62 in 1ghz mode will be close to L310, since both are notebook processors...
Another question is about intel wifi/wimax adapter, intel 6250. Will it work with AMD-based pc?
Wimax will work, but wifi... I do not know.
And well, yes, battery. Can stock battery (info shows 4418 mAh) which works ~2hrs can be replaced with something more long-playing?
Thanks, and sorry for my poor english.Posted 1 year ago # -
-no, it will overheat with a faster cpu. you can downclock it, but then what is the point.
-no, it will most likely not work with intel cards
-no, have not seen a larger battery for it.

I have upgraded mine with TL-60.
- sometime it fails to boot on battery, it needs to be power cycled several times
- under load (2 instances of K7burn) it will overheat and shut down. it has enough juice in VRMs to feed it but the cooling is inadequate.
- so I modified my kernel to replace ACPI table with my own that only goes between 800, 1000 and 1200MHz. even 1600MHz is too much at full load.
- it uses less power and lasts longer at 800MHz so this is nice ;-)Posted 1 year ago # -
Okay, thanks for info. Btw, do you know - videocard soldered to motherboard or it have standart MXM II interface?

Ferrari One has integrated graphics, it is in northbridge chip on the motherboard. It also has a XGP connector that you can use to connect external box with another graphics card.
