running as a snail when browsing
(3 posts)-
I have an Acer Aspire 5520 on vista to which i brought for home use, since having it i have noticed that it seems to be running slow especially on the internet and when trying download things. I have tried many things, including checking the start-up mode to see if this makes any difference, but no, still the same.
Anyone able to help as it is now starting to drive me mad!!!??

Slow internet you say. Wireless of fixed LAN? do a internet connection speed test, maybe its just your internet connection thats slow. Fully updated windows and other driver?
You can always perform a software recovery (dont forget to backup!) to make sure everything is working as it should.

Your internet speed is going to be based on several different factors. The largest of which is going to be your Internet service provider.
The next culprit is going to be the number of programs running on your computer and the amount of ram in your system. If you've got 3GB or ram or more you should be fine in this regard.
From there you need to look at what your security software is. I would highly recommend avoiding McAfee products in general. Kaspersky, Bitdefender, and the Norton Products from 2009 will not slow your system down. Older versions of Norton, ie: 2008 and below will slow your system down.
Then you need to make sure that your internet brower of choice is completely up to date. If you're still not happy with the speed then try a different web browser. Popular non-IE browsers are Firefox, Opera, and Chrome. The latest version of Opera allows users to auto-compress images on webpages to allow them to load faster, you might want to look into that.
Finally you're looking at modifying system settings to which there are many online guides that I would google if I were you on how to increase your internet speed.
