Um... Wow. Uh ok here try this one out:

Do a chkdsk on your primary and secondary partitions. See if that yields any results. It's a long shot but your situation does seem unique. What you also might want to try is reinstalling any divers you may have accidentally uninstalled (Empowering Technologies Framework is one I can think of that might have to do with this...) and also try reinstalling your web browsers.

Short of those, and I will be thinking of more options for you, it seems like a software issue so a reformat and reinstall might be the last step to take.

Cheers for the quick response noober, im afraid im still relatively new to all this and i dont understand what you mean about partitions !!
If theirs any chance you could make it more simple for me to understand it would be much appreciated........
also when i first turned the new laptop on and done all setup and updates i did uninstall a few things but only the games, power director thingy and some other junk but i did check out online that they were not needed.
I then installed zone alarm, spybot, malwarebytes, cc cleaner, avast and vlc media player....these are programs i had running on the old toshiba which worked perfect for me.
    cheers noober

You know what, I actually had the same problem now that I recall it. The system would just end up freezing over and over.

If I remember right - it was one of two issues, and I think I nailed it to one. It's either:

    1. Your SD card slot. If you have something in there and pull it out without first safely removing it from the system, the computer will either freeze or BSOD. Since I moved this computer to XP from Vista, I don't have that anymore, however it leads me to believe it's option number two, which is...

    2. It's overheating. This is MORE THAN LIKELY the case with it. Mine had an overheating issue when I had it on my lap in bed, and no matter how hard I tried, I kept covering the vents. When I kept it idle on the bed, I'd wake the machine up but it would be frozen. My result was to get a $24.99 laptop pad from Costco that raised the laptop and put the laptop on a level surface kept the heat dispensers in the back left clear and away from obstruction. Since then, I haven't had a single freezing issue.

Put the laptop on a table or desk without anything blocking the rear left vents and see how long it goes before freezing, if it does. If it goes for hours just fine, that means that it's overheating and that you should just get one of those pads.

Ensure that you have gotten all the updates for Windows from http://www.microsoftupdate.com .

YOu will have to check a few times to make sure that you get everything. What you're experiencing is more than likely a software issue. As well zonealarm may be the culprit here as suddenly loosing internet capabilities point to virii or a firewall acting up usually.

    1. First try a system restore.

    2. I wold suggest removing the battery, sometimes defective batteries can cause strange stability problems, so rule out that factor.

    3. The other thing could be bad ram.
If the problem still exist, remove one stick of ram (assuming you have 2x 2GB sticks). Test the computer with the one stick and if it still fails swap that stick with the other one and test it. You're trying to rule out bad ram possiblities.
You can also run a Memory Diagnostic Test by pressing F8 during bootup.

I had the same issue my solution was to completely reload the machine I booted a g-parted live cd and deleted all partitions and the re installed vista 64 bit home premium then went to acer's web sit and installed all the drivers (even the ones the windows said it installed to make sure I had the newest. I also use a cheap (free) piece of and old whiteboard as a lap desk to make sure I have good air flow. works like a dream and also uses less ram on boot and no crap ware at all and I noticed a huge performance increase.
