It's one year old. An Acer Aspire M5640.

The other day, It rebooted and came up with a message to run CHKDSK. I let it although not sure why it appeared all of a sudden. It booted up afterwards but was acting funny.

I rebooted again and again it asked me to run a CHKDSK. This time I didn't. I went ahead and booted normally and all seemed fine.

Yesterday, I came home from work and the Acer Splash screen was on the monitor. I rebooted the machine and it went back to the Acer screen and stopped. I did a F8 and entered the boot menu. I selected the main drive and it booted fine. Hmmmm...

Left the computer for a few and then the Acer Screen appeared again. This time, there is no way to get past it. I cannot do DEL or F8. I also noticed that all USB devices power up for a second or so then they die after the acer screen sticks.

Is this stupid machine dead or can it be salvaged?

Well what's weird is that it did load up fine after the first time but I had to start it up by going through the Boot Menu. It also had started to say to "run CHKDSK".

Then one day after I rebooted it and it was running fine, I walked back in the room and it was back on the Acer Splash screen. That was the last time it went past there.
