Unable to flash BIOS with Acer Utility
(6 posts)-
Hello fellow tech people. I'm hoping that someone can be of help here.
I've got an Acer 5920G-6313 upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit. I am trying to update the BIOS in order for my new T8300 processor to work with the unit.
I downloaded the BIOS utility from the Acer.ca website.
Right now I am getting the error message:
*******************************************
Cannot Load Driver
C:\BIOS_3813\PHLASHNT.SYS
Please check your accounts, if you have no administrator privilege, please login again!
This driver has been blocked from loading
Error code: 1275
*******************************************After receiving this error message I confirmed that my account is an Administrator on the computer, not a standard user. I also ran it with Administrative privileges and got the same result. I then went into the properties of the file and gave it administrative privileges and got the same result.
What I have not tried yet is running the program in compatibility mode for Windows Vista or Windows XP. Before I did so I wanted to see if anyone else had had success with flashing the BIOS in this matter as I don't want to brick my computer.
Thanks.

I bet you are using winplash for 32bit. 64bit OS's require a different winplash.
Try flashing in dos, it may be easier than trying to find the right winplash 64

also, pretty sure the T8300 is a penryn cpu. I don't know if it will work, but there is a specific mainboard just for penryn support on that model.
that might also be an issue.

I have the same problem. If you turn off your PC, you 'll not be able to reboot it again.
That's what happened to me...

As long as you don't initiate the BIOS flash or try and force it you're usually ok.
Techie, you don't happen to have a DOS based utility do you? heh heh. Or do you think going to the Acer website and using a model # of a different Acer laptop that is native Windows 7 64-bit and using that utility, except the BIOS for my laptop, would work?
As for the T8300 I confirmed chipset compatibility with my socket and Board and have found other users that have upgraded it fine. So that I'm not worried about. But thanks for the heads up ;)
Alternatively I do have my old 160GB HDD I could dump the files used on that onto the current 500GB in the system and re-install VIsta on that drive. Oi.. that would be a pain but it would probably work since I'd install the 32-bit version.

Hello Peter,
I experienced a simular problem, using Windows 7 (64 bit) to upgrade the BIOS.
Use Hiren's BootCD (and start the 'Mini Windows XP' utility) to run C:\Windows\Temp\WINPHLASH\SWinFlash.exe
I posted this solution in a little bit more details on my blog at http://blog.erikvl87.nl/2010/06/acer-notebook-bios-update-on-windows-7/
I hope this will help you too.
