The Aspire One IS number one.

Back in June when we first heard of the Aspire One netbook, we knew it was going to be big (metaphorically).

I always remember the smile on the face of the marketing VP when he took one of the first mock-up prototypes out of his bag. Oh yes, we all thought, “I want one!”.

And within seconds, we had the campaign payoff.

Well it looks like our first reaction to this stunning netbook was right. According to a report published a few days ago by DisplaySearch, the Aspire One has totally blown away the competition and is, quite literally, number One.

How to reset the Root Password on an Aspire One (Linux)

Many of your questions and problems concerning the Aspire One (Linux edition) come from the fact that a lot of you don’t remember the password you set when you first turned on the machine.

Well, rather than reinstalling everything from the recovery disk which effectively resets everything including the root password, there is a better solution

Not sure about the Aspire One or Linux? Read this.

2869715967_633fccf338I’m not one to quote other articles. That’s because I usually like to create my own conversations. I guess that explains why I end up talking to myself.

The ultimate Aspire One accessory?

I was in a meeting today talking about the changes we want to bring to Acer’s marketing strategy now that they’re HUGE (new website anyone?) when I got a Google Alert for the Aspire One. Now normally I don’t pay that much attention as well, all people write about is how good/cool/cute they are and [...]

Aspire One Recovery

In the first of the “How to…” series of videos, I look at how to set up a Recovery Flash Drive from the Aspire One’s Recovery DVD and then how to do the actual recovery.

I need to make it clear that this video applies to the Linux version of the Aspire One. The XP version is an entirely different ballgame and as many of you have pointed out, does not contain a recovery disk as there is a form of eRecovery already installed on the machine.

Morris. Super Guy. Super Review.

Of all the video reviews I’ve published, Morris’s have been the most in-depth.

Morris came from absolutely nowhere (well Canada) and has, I think many of you agree, helped as many people as Simone has. He’s tireless, extremely informed and a total geek ;-)

However, once the Aspire One was launched, we ran into a problem. Suddenly, very specific questions were being asked and Morris couldn’t answer them because he didn’t have an Aspire One.

Aspire One Tips and Tricks you should know about

While I try to get my head (and camera) around making these “How to…” videos and upload them into the all-new Acer Guy site which I’m rushing to get published, I came across this amazing site which any of you thinking of tinkering with your Aspire One should definitely bookmark.

How do you like it?

I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to do this and I think this is a good place to start. Several people have suggested that the new version of TheAcerGuy have a section called “How to…” with detailed instructions on how to perform particular tasks (setting up recovery disks, installing applications on the [...]

How to get into advanced mode on the Aspire One

Found this great video showing how to get into the advanced mode on the Aspire One. Please remember these words of warning, however, as the description to the video states: Walkthrough of how to activate the “advanced mode” in the Linpus OS on the Acer Aspire One. Proceed at your own risk, it is easy [...]

Messenger not working on Aspire One

I’ve been getting mails from Aspire One users who are unable to log in to Messenger with their Aspire One. I’ve asked Acer support for an explanation and there is one. “Microsoft has changed the protocol to login to their servers and our application needs to be updated – it should be ready in the [...]
