A lot more in store

OK. Confession time. My contributions to this part of the site are in direct proportion to the amount of spare room I have on my desk which more or less sums up the atmosphere over at Acer HQ. Today I got a sneak preview of the Gartner results for 1Q 2010 and there’s very little between the top two brands (Acer and HP) and also I’ve seen what’s coming (and named most of it too) and can actually say that after a long stretch of CPU brags and first to market technologies, the PC market is about to become very interesting. It’s a battle and we’re definitely closing in which explains why I feel like I’ve aged 5 years this year alone!

Upgrade Aspire 5920G (Santa Rosa) Wireless to N

Not too sure why there are not much talk about the WiFi Link 5100 or 5300 compatibility for Santa Rosa with PM965 chipset, so now, I put it to a test for everyone! Guess what? it works!
This is the card, Intel WiFi Link 5100 (looks cheap……)
Remove the 9 screws to remove the back plate

The Acer Guy does Facebook

After some serious trials and tribulations – it was much easier than I thought in the end – TheAcerGuy makes its debut on Facebook.
According to Facebook’s TOS, a Page has to have 25 fans before you can register the name (facebook.com/theacerguy) so the first thing I’ve got to ask you is to head off over [...]

The Acer Guy glitches and updates

Hi everybody,
This is just a quick post to let you know that over the next few days the site will be getting the promised updates and some tweaks to sort out some glitches that have surfaced.
The most noticeable of which is that the links from the Forum widget on the bottom right no longer work [...]

Website Tip: How To Get Your Own Avatar Pic In The Comments

One of the features I enabled for The Acer Guy when I had the site redesigned was avatars in the comments — or little picture boxes to add a bit of personal flair to postings.
The default box is that blue inverted G you keep seeing, which can get a bit dull when the comments [...]

A bit of good news.

OK, just a quick update on the Reviews section.
I’m really happy to announce that we’ve been given the green light to have AcerGuy readers review new Acer products.
This is fantastic news as a) it leverages the real voices and opinions of the community we’ve built up over the past three years, b) it shows we [...]

Getting out of the way

Once again I’m in that horrible position of not having time to contribute regularly to this site.
Once again, it’s because I’m up to my neck working on upcoming Acer projects and products I’m not allowed to talk about.

Smartphones (silence), new netbooks (silence), new notebooks (silence), Olympics (silence)… Damn I hate this job sometimes…

Fortunately for me, while I’ve been slaving over a new netbook (actually it’s a notebook), there are people who have been working flat out, unpaid and unthanked to keep this site alive.

Happy New Year, and Welcome!

Hello to all!
Passed 6 days already, but I still like to say Merry Christmas (I am so late on this) and HAPPY NEW YEAR. I know that there are some significant increases in the numbers of Aspire One users (don’t you just love birthdays and Christmases?), so I’d like to extend an official welcome message [...]

The new site and some welcome hiccups

Hello everyone.
You may have noticed one or two changes. And stuff that looks like it doesn’t work.
In the rush to get the new and improved site up and running, there are some “gaps” that still need to be filled. Be patient. I’m working on them. In the meantime, don’t stop posting and replying…

The Acer Guy tips.

You know you’ve made a change when you pass your own unique tipping point.
When Barack Obama saw Washington come in yesterday with its 11 electoral votes, pushing his overall total to 273 and giving him the Presidency, he knew at that precise moment, that change had actually happened.
On a somewhat smaller scale, I passed a [...]
